Power supply affected at Tafragam
TEZU, Aug 11: Electricity supply in the areas adjoining Tafragam including VKV Tafragam will be disrupted temporarily following burst in header of Tafragam Hydel Station due to water pressure in conducting system for running turbine set. The hydel station is generating around 50 to 60 KW of power.
CGI roof and walls of power house building and panel boards including alternator, OPU etc. have been damaged under the impact of the burst and approximate cost of the damages has been assessed to be Rs. 45 lakhs.
It is worth mentioning here that about 4.5 km long penstock stretch and header was completely rusted and is lying in a deteriorated condition since its commissioning in 1984. DIPRO

ITANAGAR, Aug 11: Concerned over declining fish stocks and rampant hunting of animals in Magi area in Likabali, the Eco Friendly Society and villagers of Magi village in a recent meeting unanimously resolved to put a blanket ban on fishing and hunting for three years from the current month within the jurisdiction of Magi. Violators would be imposed fines upto Rs.50,000 besides action as per Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
The Society has released 10,000 fingerlings in rivers of Siji, Siri, Sima, Loku and at Magi lake on August 8 and appointed 15 volunteers for strict vigilance and follow up action for conservation and preservation of wildlife.

MLA takes stock of school infrastructure

Renovate JNC boys’ hostel building: AdiSU
ITANAGAR, Aug 11: Adi Students Union (ADiSU) has appealed to the State Govt to sanction adequate fund for renovation of dilapidated boy’s hostel building of J N College, Pasighat.
In a representation to Education Minister, the Union said the hostel building of the oldest college of the state is lying in pathetic condition due to lack of maintenance. Moreover, there is no sufficient infrastructure like furniture in the hostel and there is no proper electrification in the entire hostel building, the Union said and urged the Govt to provide sufficient furniture for the boys’ hostel besides proper electrification and erection of boundary fencing.

ITANAGAR, Aug 11: All Arunachal Pradesh Forest Guard/Forest Watcher/Mali Employees’ Association (AAPFGWMEA), in a memorandum to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF), has requested for immediate ban on hunting, fishing and destruction of forest in the state particularly in the Capital region and plantation of tree saplings in all the important locations and around Capital. The Association had submitted the memorandum during a meeting with the PCCF at his office conference hall on Monday. Terminate MoU with Pawan Hans: AAPSU
ITANAGAR, Aug 11: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has submitted a representation to the Chief Minister demanding immediate termination of the MoU signed with Pawan Hans Ltd.
“The Pawan Hans Helicopter Limited has become synonymous with flying coffin in our state”, AAPSU said in its representation. Referring to earlier chopper crashes in the state, AAPSU said Late Dera Natung, the then education minister along with Late Sangey Laden, Secretary Education was killed in a Pawan Hans crash near Sessa in West Kameng in 2001, in 2011, 17 passengers died in a crash at Tawang and again in April 2011, former Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu lost his life in a copter crash. “These incidents should have been enough to awaken the state government from deep slumber, but to our utter surprise, the so called ‘flying coffin’ is still flying and killing people in our state,” the AAPSU rued. The recent incident of chopper crash with Kamlesh Kumar Joshi, Tirap Deputy Commissioner has again exposed the inefficiency of the company, the representation said adding the incident indicates that the choppers used in our state are not fit to fly in hilly terrain.
When will the Govt. act on erring private schools?

DAPORIJO, Aug 11: Education is now becoming a way of minting money in the country and Arunachal Pradesh is not exceptional. The virus of commercialisation of education has allegedly entered through the private schools that have mushroomed in every nook and corner of the state and has become a cause of serious concern.
Upper Subansiri is one such district where numerous private schools can be witnessed doing lucrative business. Most of these schools are not following the norms of running private schools in the state. These schools are devoid of basic facilities like separate bathroom, toilet for boys and girls, emergency exit doors, fire extinguishers, emergency exit doors, playground for physical education, library, laboratory and so on.
These schools are minting money from the parents but do not provide the basic facilities, including nutritious and hygienic food to the hostel boarders.
The parents and guardians of many students, whose wards live in hostels, also complained of poor hostel management. Many minor boarding students of a school were reportedly ill due to malnutrition. One of the suffering students alleged that they are served only rice, dal and potato as their meal throughout the year.
Further, there are many schools in Upper Subansiri which are not recognized by the state govt. or CBSE. Recently, 13 such unrecognised schools in the district have been identified.
The parents and guardians often fall prey to false promises of management or owners of such school and get their wards enrolled in those schools.
The management or owners of those schools lure the parents and guardians to provide their wards with the best education. It is also doubtful whether the teachers they engage are qualified ones. It was revealed after investigation that many teachers presently serving in many private schools in Upper Subansiri are undergraduates. These teachers teach students of Class X and XI. Now a layman can easily gauge the quality of education being imparted to the students in those schools.
Isn’t it the duty of the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh to look into this serious matter?
Time has come to tighten the noose on those private schools before it is too late.

TEZU, Aug 11: The Lohit district Urban Development Agency has organised a sensitization meeting on Swach Bharat Abhiyan for the Govt officers and officials and civil societies at DC’s conference hall here today.
Presiding over the meeting, Lohit Deputy Commissioner Tamyo Tatak, while highlighting the importance of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, said that everyone including Govt officials and civil society organisations have to take the responsibility to make Tezu town cleaner and more suitable for human inhabitation in terms of cleanliness and hygiene.
Giving a clarion call to make the Tezu town polythene free, the DC said restriction is being imposed on the meat selling other than the designated area or location. “Steps will be taken for beautification and cleanliness of the Town, he added. He also appealed one and all to take up cleanliness drive at their houses and surroundings for maintaining clean environment as it will lead to good health.
Meanwhile, Tezu town has been divided into 14 sectors giving responsibility to an officer in each sector who will supervise the cleanliness drive. In the Bazaar areas the social service will be supervised by the Bazaar Committee. The DUDA will be assisted by other departments in lifting the garbage. All the Government offices, institutions and private residences will engage in the cleanliness drive on August 14.

Helmet, motor parts are to be sold within MRP
PASIGHAT, Aug 11: On receipt of complaints that some of the shopkeepers in East Siang district are selling motor parts, helmet etc at exorbitant price, a team of Legal Metrology Officers has recently inspected some of the trading premises and interacted with the traders.
During the inspection, dealers were found displaying bikers helmet without the packing cover on it. “Though they claimed to be selling the products with the wrappers, there is every possibility the consumers are deceived as the MRP is printed only on the packing cover. And, since helmet, motor parts etc are packaged commodities; they are to be sold within Maximum Retail Price (MRP) as printed on the cover/wrapper. Selling of the products without the manufacture’s label or smudging off the MRP amounts to violation of provisions of Legal Metrology (packaged Commodities) Rule, 2011 and are liable to prosecution,’ ACLM K. P.Tago informed the traders during interaction.
Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs is giving due stress on consumer complaints and take prompt action so as to redress at the earliest but unfortunately, in East Siang District we have received only two complaints in last two years on legal metrology subject, disclosed Lupha Sikhet, ILM. The Legal Metrology department has vide its circular issued today directed all the shopkeepers of East Siang District dealing with motor parts, helmet etc to sell the products with the packing cover/wrapper wherein MRP and other information are given, else, it warned of initiating befitting action as per provisions of Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
Forest cover declines in 12 states and UTs
New Delhi, Aug 11: The forest cover of 12 states and Union Territories has declined by over 1200 sq kms due to a variety of reasons including encroachment and mining, Lok Sabha was informed today.
Replying to a question, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said as per India State of Forest Report 2013, the total forest cover in the country is 697,898 sq km, which is 21.23 per cent of the total geographical area of the country.
"There is a net increase of 5871 sq km in the forest cover of the country as compared with India State of Forest Report 2011," he said.
Nagaland, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Maharashtra and Andaman and Nicobar Islands have reported decline in forest cover due to encroachment, open cast mining, drying up of mangroves after tsumani and shifting cultivation practices. They earn at our costs
Dear Editor,
What N.Torun has written in your August 10 edition is 101% correct. Yes, it’s very
true that the NIEMS institute which promises to provide Tourism, Hospitality and,
Management courses in Jorhat is fake and I have personally faced and experienced
the problems 3 years back. Here’s what happened. After graduation I couldn’t find
masters course in Tourism in RGU. So, peeping into the paper I found NIEMS advertised
in the paper. The pressure of not getting admission anywhere paved my way to NEIMS.
The following day I went to the agents in SC continental where I was told to pay
a sum of 10,000/-
However, I couldn’t recover it and that day I had made the best decision by leaving the college. This is an appeal to all my Arunachalee brothers and sisters to be aware of such fake institutions. If not, they will earn and we will weep. I also request the media to research before giving misleading ads. I believe fake institutes like NEIMS will be looked into.

Accord for all

Kudos to all the interlocutors who were engaged in these protracted talks with Nagas, which delivered a “Framework Agreement” on August
03.
It has been just a week, but there is an intense concern voiced over the past few days by the CM’s of Arunachal, Assam and Manipur of not being consulted before the pact was signed. But the concerns seem just a fragment of stalemate situation in the Parliament, as Mr Tuki himself tweeted on August 05th that he welcomes the resolution of Naga political issue, which was later
deleted. And more over the Naga peace talks were started and intensified under the Congress government to which they have seen it more closely than the present government.
We must understand that the present framework agreement is just a “prelude” to the final accord and we hope that all the stakeholders will be taken into account till they reach final decision. So, it will be immature and futile to comment on this juncture. Although the silence over the content of the accord has created apprehension, which was always there. As one of the
primary demands of NSCN was geographical integration of all the Naga inhabited areas. But as PM stated that this accord is in keeping with “equality, respect, trust and confidence”.
We believe that his words will serve not only to the Nagas but all the neighbouring states as well.

Dispense hundreds too
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the kind attention of Branch Manager of respective branches of State Bank of India in capital region, about the minimum withdrawal of SBI ATMs where denomination starts from Rs 500 note.
Students face great deal of difficulty because every SBI ATM dispenses denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes only.
Most students have bank balance less than Rs 1000 and the withdrawal of Rs.500 every time we go the ATM is so unfair when it’s not required.
SBI may please start dispensing Rs.100 other than Rs 500-
